Major US stock indexes fell after the Fed raised interest rates by 0.75 percentage points to tackle inflation.

The central bank indicated that they plan to increase them, although possibly in small increments.

Sales picked up throughout the afternoon, first after Fed Chairman Jerome Powell spoke and then after he ended.

The Nasdaq, the center of market valuation concerns, dropped more than 3%.

Rate hikes and expectations of the Fed "pivot" big swings in the stock and bond markets this year.
