Browns coach gives honest response to Deshaun Watson drills

Earlier this week, quarterback Deshaun Watson was allowed to return to practice for the Cleveland Browns.

Watson is serving a suspension, but has been allowed to practice with the team for a few weeks before resuming play.

According to the latest comments from the Brown coaches, he is doing well.

"He looked good," offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said, via Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal.

"I know he's been working hard while he's away from the building. Excited to see him out there."

Van Pelt expanded on what he's seen from the star quarterback:

"He made a few throws after practice, which is what we call 'period of opportunity.' You're like, 'Oh, well, that's impressive stuff.' So that looks good. Keep working at it.

He's been in the room for a while now, so I think he has a pretty good understanding of how we work game week and how to change that when the time comes.

Van Pelt acknowledged the team is playing with the delicate balance of delegating Watson while keeping Jacoby Brissett ready.

Van Pelt said, "What delegate can you give to Deshaun that you think Jacoby has a very good understanding of that doesn't really need that delegate."

 "So, you're trying to make sure you have the right plays selected for Deshaun and, at the same time, Jacoby isn't cut short in his preparation."

Brissett will start this weekend against the Buffalo Bills.
