he meets with a doctor and learns that he has a genetic predisposition to a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions.
Hemsworth has two copies of the APOE4 gene in his DNA, making him eight to 10 times more likely than the average person to develop the progressive neurological disorder.
The Australian actor revealed that filming the episode about such a heavy subject made him realize he "just wasn't ready to let go."
Although Hemsworth said, "It's not like I've submitted my resignation," he acknowledged that the culmination of the experiences prompted him to take time off from acting.
"It really inspired me to take some time off," said Hemsworth.
"And since we finished the show, I've been fulfilling things that I was already contracted to do."
"Now, when I finish this tour this week, I'm going home, and I'm going to take a good chunk of time off and just take it easy," he said. "Be with the kids, be with my wife."
"Look, if it's a motivator for people to take better care of themselves and also understand that there are steps you can take — that's fantastic," Hemsworth said.
